Alexander Langerman, MD, FACS, Assistant Professor of Surgery, discusses why doctors should refer patients to the University of Chicago Medicine for head and neck Surgery.
ALEXANDER LANGERMAN: I actually have a very close working relationship with my referring physicians. I was one of the inaugural junior faculty scholars of The Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence. There is really focus on the doctor-patient relationship. But one of my interest was, how do you honor the doctor-patient relationship that exists with a referring physician and their patient when they might refer a patient over for some advanced care? And so I really try to focus on maintaining that connection, a close collaboration with my referring physicians, and making sure that they're updated about the patient, informed, and they're always able to ask questions or just get checkups. So this has been a really fun experience for me to work with my colleagues in the community and ensure that the patients get the best possible care.
